suggestion for you, Viber user:

into firmware will be great to implement a function to turn off 3G /GSM connection manually: it's useful and appreciable , for phone range battery!

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion :)

Do you mean that you would like an option that doesn't allow using Viber on 3G? (only on WiFi?)

Hi,

it's appreciable, with our modern smartphone that have few hours of autonomy,, to turn off data connection (3g and wifi) totally or the possibility to turn off the app totally: so Viber can use only when someone desire connect.

for example, with Whatsapp, another message application most widespread, it's impossible to disconnet and close totally, it need an task manager to kill process to turn off totally. otherwise the smartphone will decrease its battery endurance.

otherwise, another solution, the possibility to make connections only every X minutes ( changeble by user ) : every 10,30,60,90...etc minutes when someone is not in chat with another user.

i think will be an advantageous condition. someone can think differently.

@ simonzo -

Thank you for your response and explanation :)

About the option to shut down Viber - please note that Viber is meant to be a "substitute" to your cellular service. That is why Viber remains available at all times.

Regarding the battery consumption - you shouldn't worry about it at all. Viber can actually be completely shut off (doesn't use any battery at all) and still remains available for calls and text messages thanks to Android's C2DM service and iPhone's Push Notification mechanism.

Viber will only "come back to life" if there is an event like receiving a text message or a call, at which case, we assume, you would want to see it ;)

yes, but here we speak about symbian, not iOS or Android! i believe that energy saver into symbian are little different and worse!

some people would deside to cut off 3g connection , example with roaming or when battery is near 0%

so we attend for viber on s60 symbian!

These days, Viber for Symbian under development, and we hope that it is released soon.

Once it is available, we would appreciate if you could check the battery usage by Viber, and report back to us the results :)

We wouldn't feel comfortable doing this ourselves, it would seem too much like a PR method ;)

Our goal is to let users know (in person) of the news, and help them directly with any problem/question they might have.

If new threads are opened here on Nokioteca and we are not monitoring them, then you can feel free to let us know, and we'll come right in and provide assistance :)
